Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to join mouldings to form artwork frames. Frames may be for artworks, documents, textiles or three dimensional (3D) items.This unit applies to picture framers and others completing work in accordance with pre-determined frame designs. No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Prepare for work
  • Read work order and identify joining requirements
  • Identify and follow work health safety requirements throughout the work
  • Obtain and check frame components against work instructions for size, number, pattern and finish profile
  • Identify and report shortages and defective items in accordance with workplace practice
  • Select fixing and joining devices in accordance with work instructions and type of moulding to be joined
  • Select and check tools and equipment for suitability, quality, serviceability and safety prior to use
  • Plan the work sequence to suit the job
       
Element: Assemble frames
  • Lay out components and join using selected equipment, fastenings and appropriate adhesives
  • Check assembled frame for alignment, required pattern matching and correct fasteners and attachments
  • Finish corners in accordance with workplace requirements
  • Inspect completed frames for compliance with quality and work order requirements, and rectify any deficiencies
  • Store joined frames in accordance with workplace requirements

  • Mark completed work for identification and store in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Identify and store items for recycling in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Clean work area and safely dispose of rubbish
  • Accurately complete required workplace documentation
  • Check, clean and store tools and equipment in accordance with workplace procedures

Assessment Tasks

Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts.
